This mission looked to assess the feasibility and performance of glider operations in Baffin Bay as well as collect preliminary active and passive acoustic data, and oceanographic data. The glider was deployed remotely via the fishing vessel Kiviuk on September 12th for a 32 day mission that spanned 530 km. The glider mission was divided into two parts. The first part was a survey of an area just north of the Disko Fan Conservation Area to identify tags in Greenland Halibut or tags from Halibut that were caught, gutted and discarded by fish trawlers. The second part was for the glider to transit approximately 160 kilometers across the Davis Strait to await recovery off Qikiqtarjuaq, Nunavut. While the glider was performing these objectives it recorded audio data up to 60 kHz, and measured water properties from a CTD, chlorophyll and CDOM fluorescence, optical backscattering and downwelling irradiance. |
